If you haven’t discovered Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D., you have a treat in store for you.
Dr. Bolen is an author of women’s studies and the internationally known psychiatrist who
developed the concept of using goddess archetypes during Jungian analysis with her clients.
Her book titles include The Millionth Circle, Goddesses in Every Woman, and Urgent Message from Mother: Gather the Women, Save the World.

On Mother’s Day May 11, 2008, Dr. Bolen invited women around the world to each ring a bell at 1pm to begin a moment of silence in honor of the world’s children. She also provided a prayer that we invoke on their behalf. Below is a copy of that prayer, as well as a photo of my great niece who was surrounded on this May 11th Mother’s Day with her great grandmother, grandmother, mother and myself (her great aunt) as we honored our next generation.

We are standing for the world’s children and grandchildren
and for the seven generations beyond them.
We dream of a world where all of our children have safe
drinking water, clean air to breath, and enough food to eat.
A world where they have access to a basic education to develop
their minds and healthcare to nurture their growing bodies.
A world where they have a warm, safe and loving place to call home.
A world where they don’t live in fear of violence in their home, in
their neighborhood, in their school or in their world.
This is the world of which we dream.
This is the cause for which we stand.
